Welcome to Clayform By Anthea |
|
In 2002 I changed direction, from a background of ceramic art, to sculpting with clay. My own style became apparent soon after, as it seemed that whatever I made took on a feminine form. At the same time, my daughter was completing her studies in fashion and design, which gave me the idea of clothing from clay. Following this theme I have developed a fashion series, inspired by the dresses worn by stars who walk the red carpet - Liz Hurley, Madonna, Posh Spice, and Angelina Jolie.
My work is hand-coiled using earthenware clay, fired once and then sealed. I prefer to leave these pieces natural so that the simplicity and fluency of the form is apparent without the distraction of glaze. I am the recipient of the South Canterbury Premier Award 2003 and again in 2004, and also the New Plymouth Supreme Award 2005. In February 2008 I was guest exhibitor at the Percy Thompson Gallery, Design Flowers and Fashion exhibition featuring Annah Stretton, International fashion designer, where my sculptures were used as the static connection between fashion and art.
